Coronavirus & COVID-19

How to protect yourself and get care — your health and safety are always our top priority. To help you protect yourself and your loved ones, we’ve gathered the most important information and guidance on the coronavirus and COVID-19.

Simple & Effective Self-Care Practices

Simple and effective self-care practices can help support your physical and mental health. We encourage you to:

  • Rest and relax. Periodically focus on taking slow deep breaths to help activate a relaxation response. It’s also important to take regular breaks when you are able.
  • Exercise. Physical activity like brisk walking, mixed with periods of relaxation can alleviate physical and emotional stress.
  • Express your feelings to people who are supportive of you: family, friends, colleagues, clergy, your personal physician or mental health provider.
  • Support others who may need to express their feelings to you. Not only will this help them but being of service may help you feel better as well.

California Highway Patrol

Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself and your passengers in a crash. It is extremely important to make sure all children riding in your car be properly secured before every trip.

Thousands of children are injured or killed every year because their child passenger safety seats are not installed properly. Remember, most collisions occur within a mile of the home - so buckle your child in a safety seat for every trip, no matter how short.

If you're not confident of how to properly secure your child in a safety seat, contact your local CHP Area Office, and ask to speak with a child passenger safety technician. Locate a local Area Office anywhere in California.

California is comprised of culturally diverse people of all ages. Yet, we all have this in common: We all use roads and highways throughout the state to go places, conduct business, engage in commerce, or simply enjoy California's beauty. Help us do it safely! The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is actively working to reduce collision and fatality rates in California. Below are the programs designed to help promote safety and communication between California's diverse residents and the CHP.

KIDS ARE 1st is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to protect children and educate families through our ID program, child passenger safety seat checks, teen impairment/distracted driving tasks and empowering youth through art at our safety and health events.
