VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

During these unprecedented times, we would like to encourage our community to continue to be a force for good. We have provided a list of both online and in-person volunteer opportunities as a way to accommodate the needs of all fans through a variety of initiatives.

Virtual Volunteering

American Corporate Partners

Mentor a veteran looking to transition into civilian careers.

American Red Cross

Digital Volunteers sign up to monitor, engage, and report in four-hour shifts. While this work is done remotely, our Digital Volunteers report directly to the National Headquarters Social Engagement team in coordination with their local chapter communicators.

Binky Patrol

Sew emotional support blankets.

Bookshare

Contribute your skills and passions to help people with print disabilities read. From scanning and proofreading, to describing images, to providing support for Bookshare® teachers and families.

Career Village

Volunteers answer questions on Career Village's online discussion forum from students who want to be you when they grow up. Volunteers are notified of potential questions based on their skills/expertise. Their answers can be up/down voted by fellow volunteers and viewed by other students with similar career questions and interests.

Chemo Angels

As a Card Angel, you will send your assigned patient at least one card, letter, or note a week, and perhaps a small gift every now and then, but gifts are not required for Card Angels. Being a Card Angel is a great option for volunteers with limited budgets.

Crisis Text Line

Crisis Text Line is the free, 24/7 text line for people in crisis in the United States. The service is powered by volunteer Crisis Counselors who work remotely — anywhere with a computer and secure internet connection works.

Distributed Proofreaders

Registered volunteers may contribute to Distributed Proofreaders in several ways including proofreading, "smooth reading" pre-released e-books to check for errors, managing projects, providing content, or even helping develop improvements to the site. Volunteers may also join other members of our community in our forums to discuss these and many other topics.

Hire Heroes USA

Mock Interview volunteers conduct mock phone interviews asking typical interview questions, as if you were conducting a real interview, and then provide honest and friendly feedback about what they did well and opportunities for improvement. Career counseling volunteers speak with veterans and military spouses about specific needs or interests related to their job search. The conversation could include topics such as networking strategies, knowledge sharing specific to an industry or position, or general career planning.

Learning Ally

Volunteers help produce audiobooks for students with learning disabilities and blind/visually impaired. Opportunities include Narrators, Listeners, and Quality Assurance volunteers.

MicroMentor

Volunteers serve as online mentors to entrepreneurs. Mentors create a profile on their online platform and search entrepreneur profiles to find a match and connect online.

#MillionMaskChallengeLA

Sew masks at home for essential workers and seniors.

ScholarMatch

Volunteers can serve as a College Coach or a Career Coach. College Coaches provide mentorship to help our students navigate the college application process. Career Coaches will work virtually with your student to help them navigate the complex – and often intimidating – process of landing an internship or job.

Science Buddies

The Ask an Expert Program is a free online forum where students and parents can ask questions about K-12 science projects. Volunteers work together to provide personalized assistance to students who have questions about any phase of their project, from coming up with an idea to analyzing data to displaying results at a science fair.

Taproot Plus Projects or Sessions (Taproot Foundation)

Provide pro bono support when an organization needs it most by connecting virtually or in person on Taproot's online matchmaking platform. Help with projects like: social media strategy, employee handbook development, business plan creation, financial analysis, technology assessments, and more.

The Scholarship Academy

Adopt virtual office hours to help students navigating the college admissions process.

The Trevor Project - Trevor Chat/Text

TrevorChat/TrevorText volunteers are trained to answer chat messages or texts online from young people who are struggling with issues such as coming out, LGBTQ identity, depression, and suicide. Volunteers need access to a computer in a private location with a strong internet connection, and should be comfortable with instant messaging and with using the internet.

Translators Without Borders

Translator volunteers connect through TWB's Kató online platform. TWB Kató connects non-profit organizations worldwide with a community of language professionals who work together to ensure that critical health, crisis response, and human rights information is available in local languages. The diverse Kató community has currently more than 26,000 members, offering professional language services in over 250 language pairs.

In-Person Volunteering

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

Help pack boxes to be donated to Angelenos in need.

Meals on Wheels

Deliver meals to seniors.

Union Rescue Mission

Help with meal service for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
