LAFC2 played St. Louis CITY2 to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at USC’s Rawlinson Stadium before claiming the extra point with a 7-6 win in the postgame penalty shootout.
Palmer Ault gave St. Louis the lead in the 19th minute, but Charlie Kosakoff answered in first-half stoppage time to pull the Black & Gold level, finishing from the center of the box to make it 1-1 at halftime.
The second half stayed tight and physical. Ethan Scally came up with a series of important saves for the Black & Gold, but the match shifted again in the 72nd minute when LAFC2 defender Luke Goodman was shown a red card. The playing field leveled 13 minutes later when St. Louis’ Sidney Paris was sent off following a second yellow card, but neither side could find a late winner before the final whistle.
LAFC2 then secured the extra point from the penalty spot, prevailing 7-6 in the shootout. Bryan Moyado converted the decisive kick, and Scally sealed the result with a save on Riley Lynch in the final round.
The two sides were evenly matched throughout. LAFC2 finished with a 17-15 edge in shots and matched St Louis with eight shots on target, while both goalkeepers made seven saves.
LAFC2 returns to action on Sunday, June 7, when the club travels to face Austin FC II at Parmer Field in Austin, Texas. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m., and the match will be available on MLSNEXTPro.com.
