LAFC2 extended its home unbeaten streak to seven matches and won its second straight overall on Sunday night with a 3-1 victory over Houston Dynamo 2 at USC’s Rawlinson Stadium.
The Black & Gold struck early through 17-year-old attacker Liam Lambert in the opening minute, but the match shifted in the 35th minute when the Black & Gold's Christian Díaz was shown a red card, leaving LAFC2 with 10 men. Houston capitalized just before halftime, pulling level on Gustavo Dohmann’s 45th-minute goal.
After the break, Houston's man advantage was erased when Myles Gardner was sent off for a second yellow card in the 49th minute. LAFC2 regained control from there, as Luke Goodman restored the Black & Gold’s lead in the 68th minute, finishing from outside the box off an assist from DeCarlo Guerra. Guerra then capped the night from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to seal the result.
Goalkeeper Ethan Scally made three saves for LAFC2, which finished with a 16-11 edge in shots and put eight attempts on target.
LAFC2 has not lost in its last seven matches at Rawlinson, going 6W-0L-1D in that span and outscoring visitors 15-7. Its lone home draw during that stretch concluded with a penalty-shootout triumph (vs. STL on May 24) to earn an extra point.
The Black & Gold currently stands in sixth place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference standings, with an overall mark of 7W-4L-4D for 27 points - just four points behind second-place Houston (9W-3L-2D, 31 points).
LAFC2 returns to action on Sunday, July 5, when the club hosts Real Monarchs at Rawlinson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m., and the match will be available on MLSNEXTPro.com.
