The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today the signing of 23-year-old midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye. LAFC has reached an agreement with Kaye’s former club, Louisville City FC of the United States Soccer League (USL), that will transfer him to LAFC immediately. Kaye joins LAFC after helping Louisville City FC win the USL championship in 2017.
“Mark-Anthony is a promising young player with great potential and versatility,” said LAFC EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager John Thorrington. “We look forward to integrating him into the group as we believe he can become a significant contributor to our team immediately.”
Last season, Kaye appeared in 19 regular season contests for Louisville City FC, tallying four goals and one assist. In his two seasons with the club, Kaye saw action in 39 matches (31 starts), adding five goals and four assists in 2,605 minutes.
Following a two-year collegiate career at York University in Canada in which he tallied 18 goals in 29 matches, Kaye joined the Toronto FC Academy in 2013. He would appear in nine games for TFC’s academy before finishing the season on loan with USL side Wilmington Hammerheads.
“Mark-Anthony is an exciting player who has shown creativity and good football both at Louisville City and at the international level,” said LAFC Head Coach Bob Bradley. “He gives our Club another talented option as we build our roster for the season.”
In March of 2015, Kaye signed with Toronto FC II ahead of their first campaign in USL and appeared in 22 regular season matches, making 19 starts and registering two goals and two assists in seven games.
Internationally, Kaye appeared in four matches for Canada’s U-23 squad in 2016 before making his senior team debut on June 13, 2017 in a friendly against Curaçao. Last summer, Kaye was named to Canada’s 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup roster, appearing in two group matches.
