André Horta has been away from LAFC training this past week. The midfielder is on national team duty after being called into the Portugal U21 side for EURO qualifiers against Romania and Wales.
Despite not featuring in the first match, a 2-1 loss to Romania, Horta was included in the starting 11 against Wales on Tuesday. And in the 34th minute, he scored from what seemed like a continent away:
With the power and swerve Horta put on that shot, the goalkeeper never had a chance - even from that distance. Portugal would go on to win the match 2-0. Horta played all 90 minutes.
Portugal now sits third in Group 8 on 16 points, two points back of first place Romania with two matches left to play. The top teams from each group qualify for the EURO U21 tournament in Italy and San Marino next summer, while the top four runners-up go to a playoff for the final two spots in the tournament.
