Ciman Leaves Belgium Squad Ahead Of World Cup

Ciman Takes Free Kick Against Seattle 4/29/18 IMG

It appears Laurent Ciman will not be a part of this year's World Cup.

Late last night, the Belgium National Team announced the defender had departed the squad's camp in Russia and was returning to Belgium. Ciman is still being considered as a standby player in case of an injury, but could be released back to LAFC on Sunday night.

Ciman had trained with Belgium in the lead up to the start of the tournament. He was named as a standby after Vincent Kompany suffered an injury in training. At the time, it was feared Kompany may not be able to take part in Russia 2018. Today's news seems to confirm Kompany's fitness.

If Ciman is in fact released on Sunday, it is unclear when he would arrive back in Los Angeles. LAFC take on Sacramento Republic FC on Wednesday, June 20 in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16.
