LAFC Signs Goalkeeper Luis Lopez

Luis Lopez Is Black & Gold

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today the signing of Honduran goalkeeper Luis López. The 24-year-old Honduran National Team Member will be added to LAFC’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.

“Luis is a young, athletic goalkeeper who’s eager to grow and learn within MLS,” said EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager John Thorrington. “We’re excited to get him on the field and see what he can do for our Club.”

López comes to LAFC after spending the past five years with Honduran club, Real España, making 124 appearances since his debut in 2013. Last season, López helped Los Aurinegros win the Apertura 2017 for the first time in four years.

On the international stage, the 5-foot-11 goalkeeper made his senior team debut on September 4, 2015 after spending time with the Under-20 and Under-23 teams between 2013-2016.

The San Pedro Sula native was the starting goalkeeper at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he helped Los Catrachos reach the quarterfinals, recording two shutouts in four appearances. López also appeared in two 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, including the 1-1 draw against the United States last year.

“Luis is an athletic goalkeeper who is very good with the ball at his feet,” said LAFC Head Coach Bob Bradley. “He will bring great experience having played in big matches throughout his career.”

LAFC began preseason training for its inaugural season on Monday, Jan. 22 on the campus of UCLA in Westwood, which will serve as LAFC’s home field throughout the preseason. Digital assets from each training session can be found here.
