LAFC had a little over a week to celebrate its Rivalry Week victory over the Galaxy on July 9. Now, they travel to Nashville for the first time in Club history to face another difficult Western Conference opponent. It will also be the first time LAFC faces off against old friend Walker Zimmerman, who starred in central defense for the Black & Gold in 2018 and 2019 before being traded to Nashville before their inaugural season.
Nashville is known as one of the toughest teams to break down defensively in MLS. They boast a disciplined and strong defense, and a dangerous goalscorer in Hany Mukhtar, who has scored 31 regular season goals in his first three seasons in MLS and can flip a game on its head instantaneously.
LAFC WILL WIN IF
They can continue the momentum from a Rivalry Week win over the Galaxy and play a disciplined style that takes advantage of Nashville’s counter-attacking tendencies. Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale might make their LA debut – but if the connection between Carlos Vela and Cristian Arango remains strong like it has over the last two games they have played – LAFC could be in good shape.
NASHVILLE SC CAN WIN IF
LAFC loses track of Hany Mukhtar and the talented striker is able to find space and time in the attacking end. Nashville will attempt to play a defensive style to limit LAFC’s attack. If they get solid performances from Zimmerman and the rest of the defense – Nashville could be looking for their second straight home win.
