LAFC played the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at BC Place in Vancouver, B.C. The result kept both teams tied on points for first place in the Western Conference, pending Saturday night's San Jose vs. FC Cincinnati match.
LAFC's Son Heung-Min opened the scoring in the 37th minute, finishing an assist from Denis Bouanga with a spin and right-footed shot from the top of the area that gave LAFC a 1-0 lead and marked Son's fourth goal in four games since the World Cup break.
Vancouver's Thomas Müller equalized from the penalty spot in the 76th minute after LAFC's Yevhen Cheberko was whistled for a foul in the area.
A Son free kick in the final minute of stoppage time (90'+5) was blocked by the Whitecaps' wall, with Son's second try sailing high and wide of goal, sealing the draw and shared points.Â
LAFC returns to BMO Stadium on Wednesday, August 5, when it hosts Liga MX opponent Chivas de Guadalajara in both clubs' opening match in Leagues Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT, and the match will be broadcast on Apple TV, with local radio coverage on 710 AM ESPN, the ESPN LA app, KYPA 1230 AM [Korean], and 980 AM La Mera Mera [Spanish].
