After six seasons, 186 matches, 93 goals, countless memories, and a trophy case full of individual and team hardware, LAFC’s first and most venerated player, Carlos Vela, will be honored at BMO Stadium on September 21, along with the Latin American communities of Los Angeles.

ARRIVE EARLY

Presented by Ford, LAFC’s match against Real Salt Lake kicks off at 6:00 p.m. PT, but fans are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy Fan Fest outside the stadium as well as a special pregame ceremony and an unveiling that honors Vela, who recently announced his retirement from football and became LAFC’s first Club Ambassador.

FAN FEST

Before the match, Vela and the Latin American community that has embraced him since his arrival in LA eight years ago will be celebrated outside BMO Stadium with tailgating and live performances (including a DJ, Folklorico dancers, Aztec dancers, Mariachi music and a Banda Performance), as well as games, partner giveaways, and a chance to sign the “Thank You Carlos” wall.

VIVA EL REY

One of the most decorated players in MLS history and LAFC’s all-time leader in games played, minutes, goals, and assists, Vela won the 2019 MLS MVP and Golden Boot awards in record-breaking fashion, scoring more goals in a single season (34) than any MLS player before or since.

Vela joined LAFC as the first player in club history when he signed as a Designated Player in ahead of LAFC’s inaugural 2018 season. “From the beginning, Carlos has been more than just a player—he has been the heartbeat, the captain, and the face of LAFC,” Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington said upon Vela’s retirement in May 2025. “Carlos arrived in Los Angeles with a shared vision of building something truly special, and he delivered on that promise in every way.”

A four-time MLS All-Star (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022), and a three-time MLS Best XI selection (2018, 2019, 2022), Vela led LAFC to the 2022 MLS Cup, the 2019 and 2022 Supporters’ Shields and an MLS-record two appearances in the Concacaf Champions League Final (2020, 2023). He is one of just 13 players in MLS history to record at least 75 goals and 50 assists, and is the only player to do it in just six seasons.

The Cancun, Mexico, native was a key contributor to the Mexican National Team, playing in the FIFA World Cup in 2010 and 2018, and appearing in 72 total games, scoring 19 goals.
