Son Heung-Min recorded a brace in the first 23 minutes of the 2026 MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday night at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, earning MVP honors as the MLS All-Stars defeated the Liga MX All-Stars, 4-3.
The match capped off a three-day whirlwind tour of the Charlotte area for LAFC's only MLS All-Star representative, as Son, the league's current leader in assists, participated in various media opportunities and competed in the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge presented by AT&T on Tuesday, then captained the MLS squad on Wednesday night.
With the MLS All-Stars trailing 1-0 in the 20th minute, Son received a pass on the left wing from New England Revolution playmaker Carles Gil and finished it with a low right-footed roller past Liga MX goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo (of Santos Laguna) to tie the score at one. Exactly three minutes later, Gil found Son on his left again, with the Korean icon beating Acevedo with a running right-footed volley for a 2-1 advantage.
"I have enjoyed it a lot," Son said after being subbed off in the 35th minute. "It's amazing. Amazing players. I didn't have to do much. Everybody just set it up perfectly, so I just had two tap-ins."
Now Son returns to Los Angeles before heading to Vancouver on Saturday for a top-of-the-table showdown against his All-Star teammate Thomas Müller and the Vancouver Whitecaps.Â
His first All-Star experience, Son said, "was pure joy. The people were so nice. Obviously we don't know each other but we spent maybe three days here, and inside the team everybody was such a nice person ... the experience was fantastic."
LAFC returns to action on Saturday, August 1, when the club travels north to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place. The match is scheduled to kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on Apple TV, as well as Coupang Play and SPOTV for fans in Korea. Local radio coverage will be available on 710 AM ESPN, the ESPN LA app, KYPA 1230 AM (Korean), and 980 AM La Mera Mera (Spanish).
